2022-2023 SAGT Student Programs

Study Skills Workshop

Saturday, August 27th 

Over 100 students in grades 5-12 joined Mrs. Leslie Andre (a former CISD teacher) to learn about how to set themselves up for school success, with tips on things like getting organized, how to take effective notes, and understanding different types of learning styles.

Code Ninjas

Sunday, September 18th

In this session students learned how programmers give computers instructions and how computers can be used to solve problems and help others. They learned how to write code for computers in JavaScript. Got ready to learn how computer games and apps can be used to help people learn new things or develop healthy habits!

ArtHouse

Saturday, October 22nd

Exercise the imagination at the ARThouse. Our art classes nurture artistic talent for ages 5 to 105. For this class, students from grades Kindergarten through 6th grade made fruit slice magnets. The medium made acrylic painting on wood.

Stargazing

Friday, January 27th 

Carroll High astronomy/physics teacher, Mr. Graff shared a wealth of information about the night sky and showed our GT groups the moon, nebulas, and constellations through two 14-inch Celestron telescopes. 

Overnight Safari at the Fort Worth Zoo

Bring your sleeping bag and explore the Fort Worth Zoo after hours with other SAGT members!

Air and Space

Monday, February 8

Explore the wonders of air and space by learning about our solar system and the ingenuity of space exploration. Take a tour through the solar system, learning about each planet along the way.  Learn about the tools astronauts use to make new discoveries, including Mars rover and Voyager space probes.  Design your own planet using Paint 3D.

Code Your Own Video Game with MakeCode Arcade

Monday, March 1

Students use block-based coding to create a video game with MakeCode Arcade.  Students learn fundamental game and coding concepts like sprites, variables, and coordinates, and use their new skills to create and customize a playable game.

Resume Assistant with Word and LinkedIn

Monday, March 29

Discover how to rock your LinkedIn profile.  Get a hands-on start developing a stellar profile and learn how to grow your professional LinkedIn skills.  Build your online brand, engage with your network, and sharpen your resume.

2019-2020 SAGT Student Programs

Past Events

SAGT students tried to Escape-the-Bus by using critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. The Bus uses core components of Escape Rooms combined with cutting-edge educational strategies to create an unforgettable experience!

• CR Smith Flight Museum

SAGT members participated in workshops, interactive exhibits, a movie and a tour of the rare DC-3 aircraft before enjoying a picnic lunch to the sounds of the DFW Control Tower.

• SAGT Soars Again

SAGT students suited up to simulate sky-diving at iFly Frisco. We marveled at flight demonstrations and STEM activities during SAGT’s second trip to the wind tunnel.

• Educational (and fun!) Sleepovers

SAGT students have enjoyed several overnight trips to the Perot Museum, Fort Worth Zoo and Dallas Arboretum.

• Late Night Laser Tag

SAGT members had a fantastic time at SAGT’s Late Night at LaserQuest. The kids had a great time playing laser tag and enjoyed an interactive presentation on lasers and light.

• Stargazing with SAGT

Each fall and spring, SAGT takes a close look at the exciting action in the sky at the CISD Observatory on the JES campus. Thank you to CSHS Astronomy & AP Physics professor, Sam Graff, for running the telescopes for SAGT members!

• SAGT Study Skills Seminar and Stress-Relief Yoga Program

In order to relieve some of the stress that comes with being a high achiever, SAGT alternates each year between offering a Study Skills Seminar an a Stress-Relief Yoga Program for our member students.

• Camp Invention

SAGT sponsors Camp Invention each summer as a unique opportunity for our students to learn valuable problem-solving skills. This camp is taught by CISD GT teachers.
